Ethical Wish list // Beach Essentials

Ethical Wish list // Beach Essentials

It’s summer and I’m daydreaming about the beach, so I put together a little ethical shopping guide for those upcoming beach days. Growing up my landlocked self always daydreamed about vacationing at the sea. Now I live close to the ocean and can technically visit the beach year round, but it’s in the summer that the pull of the waves is the strongest. There’s just something extra magical about the shore in the summertime don’t you think?

We recently took Lewie to the beach and spent the whole afternoon building a massive sandcastle then eating fresh fish for dinner. It was such a classic summer day. Growing up near the ocean is truly a luxury and I want to take Lewie more often. So below are some ethical beach essentials I’m grabbing next time!

Sand Bucket //  You simply can’t have a child and go to the beach without a bucket. It can seriously provide hours of entertainment. This indestructible sand bucket  is perfect for tiny hands, will last for years to come and is made in Germany.

Kite //  One of Lewie’s favorite books right now is this Weather First Discovery Book. For the summer page he loves talking about the kites on the beach. Now a good kite is one my summer list. This one is made in the USA! Into The Wind Gold Classic Hata Diamond Kite Made in the USA

Turkish Towel // Turkish towels are simply the best and unlike regular towels they get softer with time. These are perfect to use as blanket, a quick-absorbing towel, or a light throw when it gets chilly. I especially love this fun rainbow one which is fair-trade certified and made by artisans in Ethiopia. fair-trade certified turkish towel made by artisans

Tote // I have a couple beach totes that I love, both bought second-hand. Shopping second is great way to shop ethically on a budget. Try searching your local thrift store first or Etsy. I adore handwoven totes because they’re lovely enough to use everyday as a market or diaper bag.

TIP: Etsy can be pretty overwhelming, so see what’s near you first. Just enter you location in the left sidebar. Often the seller will let you coordinate a pick-up to save on shipping.

Easy Dress //  I always throw a simple dress in my bag to wear over my swimsuit. I love this Cotton Striped Tee Dress by Everlane. Everlane works only with ethical factories and has transparent pricing.

What about you, what’s on your summer wish list?

Ethical Wish List // Royal Home Decor

Ethical Wish List // Royal Home Decor

Like everyone else in the world, I’m obsessed with The Crown. The production design is unmatched! Inspired by the decor, I’m putting together an ethical wish list of artisan made and secondhand vintage finds inspired by the royal family.

Typically, I’m a terrible TV watcher. I have zero loyalty to shows and immediately quit when I’m bored. It drives my husband crazy. I’ve finished only three shows in my life, but have now watched both seasons of The Crown twice. Yes the acting is marvelous and the writing impeccable, BUT but it’s the lavish and detailed world that have me watching on repeat.

From the wallpapered rooms covered with paintings to the floors overlapped with rich rugs, everything is decorated to English perfection. I couldn’t live in a more different place–a small white apartment in sunny California, and while I do love a simple space, I also think a few choice pieces of richness and texture are the perfect compliment to so much white. So here’s a favorite ethical finds to add a bit of the royal life into my everyday.

// Horse Bookends //

Queen Elizabeth is a long-time lover of horses. In the show, her office often shows paintings and statues of horses. These bookends are a win win to me–beautiful, practical and second hand! From EBTH, an online estate sale marketplace. If you haven’t discovered EBTH, prepare to be addicted.

// Brass Pen //

I love how the Queen is often at her desk writing letters. Even if you’re just writing the grocery list, class it up with this beautiful pen that will last for years. Refillable ink makes this pen an amazing eco-friendly find! From Poketo.

// Cream & Sugar Set //

Who doesn’t love the British tradition of tea time? This vintage cream & sugar set is the perfect mix of intricate and yet still modern. From Etsy.

// Painting //

Apparently the British Royal Family has the largest private art collection in the world. While you can’t compete with that, a painting, especially if it’s in an ornate frame, is beautiful way to add some richness and depth to a room. This piece is from EBTH. Other great places to find art are antique & vintage stores, and did you know that you can shop Goodwill online? Yep, it’s like a secret Ebay.

Ethical Wish List // A weekend in Paris

Ethical Wish List // A weekend in Paris

It seems like every instagrammer I follow has unanimously decided to pack-up and go on holiday to France. They’re drinking their morning café au lait and wearing sweaters and walking in the rain. Is there anything more envious yet magnetic than travel photos? Since I can’t actually whisk off to Paris right now to join them, I decided to do a little daydreaming instead. I’m putting together my make-believe weekender bag, packed with my capsule wardrobe of sustainable clothes and accessories. I mean, it’s aways good to be prepared, even if it is just imaginary.
